MINI-CAGE

Cage based aquaculture system involves the growing of fishes in existing water resources, while fishes are enclosed in a net cage which allows the free flow of water and a controlled farming system. A fish cage is easy to set up and the fish can grow up quickly. The fish cage is usually not large. Generally, cage fisheries are installed in large water bodies and reservoirs for fish farming. Jaljeevika has designed and tested the efficiency of a mini casein pond to enhance productivity & earn a better livelihood.

Our Solution

  • Solar aeration system-based Cage fish farming in farm ponds, backyard ponds, community ponds, and wetlands

  • Energy-efficient system

  • Easy to install (needed a maximum of one hour to install cages)

  • Convenience in transportation, installation, and maintenance

  • Water quality and dissolved oxygen management through solar aeration

  • Use of fickle materials as manured water for integrated farming

  • Multipurpose use of cage based fish farming

  • Easy to manage at the household level

Economical Benefits

  • A set of two cages in a pond has the potential to produce 1200-1500 Kg of high-valued fish like Pabada, Murrel, Mangur, Singhi, Tengra. With a market price of @300-350/Kg

  • Reduction in fish harvesting costs. No dependency on fish harvesters

  • Protection from fish mortality during winter and cloudy weather

Advantages of Mini-Cage

  • Many types of water resources can be used, including lakes, reservoirs, ponds, strip pits, streams, and rivers

  • A relatively low initial investment is required in an existing water body

  • Harvesting is simplified

  • Observation and sampling of fish are simplified

  • Allows the use of the pond for sport fishing or the culture of other species

  • Less manpower requirement

  • Generation of job opportunities for unemployed youth and women

  • Additional income to fishers during closed seasons
